Oriental Cockroach
Description
Cockroach; (Blatta orientalis)

Oriental cockroach produce an egg purse containing several eggs called an ootheca. They also have an incomplete metamorphosis (egg – Nymph – Adult). This classifies them by this means and put them into the order Cockroach and Mantids.

Oriental cockroach produce around 5 capsules at monthly intervals with 16 – 18nymphs in an ootheca, hatching time is between 6 – 12 weeks. Nymphs with go through several sheds until they reach sexual maturity which can take 10 months to 2 years.

There colour is dark Brown nearly Black and are 20 – 24 mm long and life span i 4 – 5 months.

Areas of habitat; normally this would be the sewers and within the wall cavities of buildings only emerging when conditions change; Rising water and over population.

Control measures carried out currently using insecticide gel causing a cascading effect, this means after a cockroach has died it becomes food for others and so on working around 5 times exponentially however due to the abundance of these insects control can be short lived.
