Black ant; (Lasius niger)
The common black ant is prevalent throughout the UK and spend most of their time living outside.
New queens lay eggs in the spring hatching 3 – 4 weeks later and are fed by the queen on secretions from her salivary gland until they are fully grown.

Ant have a complete metamorphosis egg - larvae - Pupae – adult.

Workers size 4mm in length and are sterile females.

Ants have craving foe protein and high sugar foods and carry this in their stomach back to the colony.

Control measures; ant gel internally although hygiene is the key to prevention, insectal spray treatment externally is carried out to kill of worker ants entering a premises.
